Tetracaine (also known as amethocaine; trade name Pontocaine. Ametop and Dicaine) is a potent local anesthetic of the ester group. It is mainly used topically in ophthalmology and as an antipruritic, and it has been used in spinal anesthesia.
Dosage and routes
Adult and Child: Instill 1-2 gtt before procedures; oint 1/2-1in to lower conjunctival fornix
Available forms: Sol, oint 0.5%
Side effects
Stinging, burning,blurred vision, lacrimation, photophobia, skin redness.
